BIC, THE global stationery brand, has used its maiden “Express Myself With My BIC Pen” campaign to champion creative writing and handwriting skills among school children in Ghana, with organisers describing it as a push to “help pupils write the future of Africa.”
The competition, launched earlier this year, targeted pupils in Basic 4 to 6. It focused on promoting good handwriting, grammar, and arts education as children transition from pencil to pen.
Manager, Stationery Brand for West and Central Africa, Morel Kouakuo, said the initiative was designed around BIC’s Crystal Ball Pen — a product long associated with quality and artistic expression.
“So, we decided to bring some BIC pens and exercise books to private schools in Ghana, and help them for this transition,” Mr. Kouakuo told journalists at the closing event in Accra.
BIC engaged more than 400 teachers across 39 schools nationwide for the programme.
Mr. Kouakuo said the results after just one month were “very positive and encouraging.”
“We’ve seen positive reactions from the kids. For some schools that’s probably a new way to learn. I know that some are already using cursive, but for others that was the first time to practice this. With the guidance of the teachers, the level of acceptance was very positive and pupils showed interesting results in just one month,” he said.
Mr. Kouakuo added that demand from schools has prompted BIC to expand the programme.
For the second edition in 2027, the company aims to reach more schools across Greater Accra and beyond.
“We expect to come back again next year, probably between January and February, and that will help us prepare for the next edition,” he said.
The selection process for this year’s edition was handled by BIC’s operational team in Ghana, with feedback already being incorporated to improve future operations.
The “Express Myself With My BIC Pen” challenge is part of BIC’s broader mission to inspire creativity and self-expression among young learners.
Director of Education, Okaikwei North, Mrs. Cynthia Aboni said the campaign also reinforced BIC’s long-term commitment to writing and arts communities worldwide.
She indicated that this exercises will help pupil to upgrade their standard of writing.
