A mourner being consoled
The Denkyira Traditional Council in the Upper Denkyira East District of the Central Region has finally informed the people of the area about the death of their paramount chief, Odeefuo Boa-Amponsem III.
Following the information, Denkyiraman has declared three days of intense mourning, though the solemn period would continue until the king settles with the ancestors.
The Regent of Denkyira Traditional Council, Nana Agyei Nkyereye II, made the announcement in the area over the weekend.
Nana Nkyereye stated that during the period, drumming and noisemaking will be banned in the whole of Denkyira, whilst funerals for the weekend will be on a low profile without drumming and the playing of music.
He indicated that the traditional council acknowledges the ongoing intense political activities and campaigns by political parties.
“Political parties, churches and other relevant entities are banned from noisemaking for three days and this is a very pragmatic move taking into consideration the required traditional and cultural rites,” he said.
The regent disclosed that the Denkyira Traditional Council will bring to the notice of the Denkyiraman and the country subsequent arrangement for the transition of the chief.
Nana Nkyereye stated that the chief who served his people, indeed, contributed his quota to global cultural development, calling on all to wear black clothing during the mourning period.
Odeefuo Boa-Amponsem III was enstooled in 1955 as the paramount chief of Denkyira and has led the Denkyira State for a period more than 60 years.
He was once the president of the Central Regional House of Chiefs as well National House of Chiefs.
He was also a member of the Constituent Assembly that drafted the fourth Republic Constitution of Ghana.
