CAF Clears Accra Sports Stadium For Ghana-Sudan AFCON Qualifier

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given the green light to the Accra Sports Stadium to host the highly anticipated TotalEnergies 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Ghana and Sudan, scheduled for October 11, 2024.

In a letter addressed to Ghana Football Association (GFA) General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo, CAF confirmed the approval of the Accra Sports Stadium following a thorough inspection of the facility.

This development marks a significant boost for the Black Stars, who will now have the opportunity to play in front of their home fans at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Background

The Accra Sports Stadium has undergone significant renovations in recent years to meet CAF’s stringent standards.

In 2022, the stadium was closed for repairs to address concerns over its pitch and infrastructure.

The GFA has worked tirelessly to upgrade the facility, and CAF’s approval is a testament to these efforts.

CAF’s Conditions

While approving the stadium, CAF emphasized the need for further enhancements to the pitch and other critical areas.

The football governing body will continue to monitor the stadium’s readiness for the match and future CAF-sanctioned events.

“We kindly request that the GFA and stadium management team prioritize necessary enhancements…to ensure an optimal experience for both teams and attending fans,” the letter read.

With CAF’s approval, the stage is set for an electric atmosphere at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Ghana currently tops Group F with 6 points, followed closely by Sudan with 4 points.
