Isaac Dogboe Knocks Out Jessie Magdaleno “Round 11”
Sleek fighter, Isaac ‘Royal Storm’ Dogboe wrote his name in gold when he wrestled the WBO Super Bantamweight title from undefeated champion, Jesse Magdaleno in the USA on Saturday night.
Dogboe, 23, by his feat joined the list of boxers like DK Poison, Azumah Nelson, Ike Quartey, Nana Yaw Konadu, Joshua Clottey among others who brought honours to Ghana at different dispensations.
Among the rich list of Ghanaian world titlists, Dogboe remains the youngest.
Despite a shaky start in the bout; visiting the canvas at a point in the first round, he recovered well and took charge thereafter.
The Ghanaian also succeeded in flooring the champion in the fifth round but he also rediscovered his rhythm, and resorted to occasional taunts.
Dogboe grew in confidence by the rounds and it became obvious that he was on his way to stardom in the latter rounds.
He stepped up his game in round eleven, where the champion succumbed to the challenger’s pressure.
In a post-fight interview, the new champion admitted the first round struggle, which he said he has drawn lessons from.
He attributed the win to a collective effort from Team Dogboe.
The former champion commended Dogboe for his resilience and toughness.
Team Dogboe is expected home tomorrow at 7.55 pm.
