Veteran Nollywood actor, Emeka Ike, has criticised women who date primarily for money, describing the practice as a “romantic scam.”
Speaking in an interview with BBC Pidgin, he said relationships should be based on genuine love rather than financial gain.
According to him, women who enter relationships solely to obtain money are deceiving their partners and would be better off begging on the streets.
“Love and marriage is not a scam. But there are a few hungry people who are using relationships as meal tickets. That’s where it becomes a scam,” he said.
He added that many women enter relationships because of what they hope to receive from men rather than because they are in love.
“A lot of girls are going into relationships because of what they want to get from the man. They should just take to street begging instead of using relationships to make money,” he said.
Ike also urged people to keep relationships sacred, saying love should not be treated as a means of making money.
“Relationships are supposed to be sacred. Love is the pillar of every good relationship. Let’s stop pretending that we are in love just to make money. Relationships shouldn’t be a source of income,” he added.
