Everest Secures First Win… Taysec Stuns Supreme In Prez Tourney

Everest Cricket Club won their first match of the GCA President’s Invitational T20 tourney in style against MMG on the Achimota Cricket Oval A during the week three actions on Sunday.

Unveiling their new jersey for the season, Everest scored 41 runs for 1 wicket in 6.4 overs to triumph over their opponents by 9 wickets, as MMG could only score 39 runs, all out in 14.2 overs in the first innings.

The Pool A tie had Girish Varadarajan being adjudged the man of the match after he took 3 wickets for 4 runs in 4 overs.

On Oval B, Carel Superkings couldn’t continue their fine form from week 2 as they lost to Nsoroma GPS by 7 wickets.

After losing week one narrowly to Salt ‘n’ Pepper, the Academy Boys scored 106 runs for 3 wickets in 17.4 overs in the second innings as against Carel Superkings 102 runs for 8 wickets.

Nsoroma’s Kelvin Marko Awala with 47 runs off 42 balls was adjudged man of the match.

It was all even in the pool as Nsoroma, Salt ‘n’ Pepper, Everest and Carel Superkings had two points each.

IPMC in Pool B came back strongly from their losing streak to beat Kyebi Leopards by 1 wicket after a 108 for 7 and 109 for 9 in 19.3 overs results on Oval B.

It took the last ball in the last over of the second innings to determine a winner as Supreme failed to take the game into a super over.

Supreme Warriors scored 115 runs for 6 wickets, and Taysec, with 1 ball and 2 runs to win, having scored 114 for 7, took the advantage of a misrun out to win by 3 wickets, scoring 116 for 7 in 20 overs.

The all-Ghanaian match which really thrilled fans and lived up to expectation till the last ball saw Vice Captain of Taysec Titans, Matthew Bawa, being adjudged man of the match after he took 3 for 21 in 4 overs and scored 43 off 43 balls.

The win puts Taysec Titans on top of Pool B table with 6 points, and Supreme Warriors lying 2nd with 4 points, as the outcome of two more matches each would determine semi-finalists.

The Ghana Cricket Association has hopes that the tournament would linger on the minds of all with the level of display and improvement of the clubs involved at their peak.
