Fire Destroys Pub, Shops Near Ho Technical University

A devastating fire on the evening of Wednesday, August 13, 2025, has reduced several businesses at Nogora Junction, near Ho Technical University, to ashes, causing significant financial losses and shock among residents.

The inferno, which eyewitnesses say began a few minutes before 6:00 p.m., swept through a well-known pub and food joint, two boutiques, and other nearby shops, consuming goods estimated to be worth over GHS 1 million.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire started suddenly inside the pub, prompting workers to attempt extinguishing it with a fire extinguisher. However, the flames spread too quickly, forcing them to call for help.

“There was no gas or cooking at the time, so we suspect it’s an electrical fault. The lights had been going on and off all day,” one shop owner told the media, visibly distressed by the loss of his business.

Firefighters from the Ho Municipal Fire Service, led by Senior Technician Officer II Michael Segbedzi and supported by Divisional Officer Grade II Seth Tay, arrived within four minutes of the report and battled the blaze for over two hours. With reinforcement from the Regional Headquarters, they managed to contain the fire preventing its spread to nearby structures.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Ghana National Fire Service.

The incident has left the Nogora Junction community and students of Ho Technical University deeply concerned, as the pub was a popular hangout spot and business hub in the area.
