‘GFA Did Not Ask Coaches To Apply For Stars’ Job’

Otto Addo, Kwesi Appiah

The senior national football team of Ghana, the Black Stars, are currently without a head coach following the resignation of Otto Addo.

Ghana put up unsatisfactory performance with coach Otto Addo at the just ended 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where the team suffered a second consecutive group stage exit in major tournaments; AFCON and FIFA World Cup.

After coach Otto Addo walked out the door, many Ghanaians have been yearning for the appointment of Otto Addo’s successor.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on ‘Kick Off’ with B.O.B on Guide Radio 91.5 FM, the Head of Communications at the Ghana Football Association, Henry Asante Twum said, “I don’t know when the FA will announce the new Black Stars coach, but we’re doing a lot behind the scenes.”

“Moreover, we didn’t ask any coach to apply for the Black Stars job.

“So as we speak, we have over 1,000 coaches who sent their CVs, but I can tell you on record that the FA has not given any directive for coaches to apply for any vacant job, but the coaches rather sent in their CVs for review,” Asante Twum said.

In January 2023, former coach of the Black Stars, Kwesi Appiah, also expressed his interest in the vacant Ghana job, despite coaching the national team on two separate occasions.

Appiah said he has applied for the job, but when Henry Asante was asked to confirm Kwesi Appiah’s application, he said, “I can’t confirm that Kwesi Appiah applied for the job, because a lot of coaches sent their CVs, I can’t tell you for sure the names of coaches who sent their CVs, but what I can tell you is; a new Black Stars coach will be appointed soon.”

Ghana will host Angola in an AFCON qualifiers on March 20, 2023, the handlers of the national team must be quick with the appointment of the new coach since the team has less than two months to prepare for the continental qualifiers.
