Ghana World Music Festival Suffers Low Patronage

The Ghana World Music Festival, which was held in Accra over the weekend at the Fantasy Dome, according to reports, suffered low patronage.

It failed to gather large numbers of music fans to fill the high capacity venue in Accra as expected.

The festival? which had top musicians as Deborah Cox, Samini, Kojo Antwi, Jupita, among others, on the bill? formed part of activities marking the ‘Year of Return’ programme.

At a point, organisers had to reduce prices on tickets, but that didn’t bring help to the numbers, NEWS-ONE gathered.

“Bringing these international artistes into an empty auditorium for performances becomes a ridicule (sic) to the country and for me it is a bad image for Ghana. Deborah Cox, a legendary artiste of her calibre who performs to over thirty to forty thousand audiences and you pay them huge sums of money and buy them ticket to come and perform to an empty auditorium. For me the one who put up this arrangement, we need to find the person to reimburse the state. The event was a flop. It was a disgrace and it was quite disrespectful because it made it look like our industry doesn’t have people who have got foresight to plan event,” Kwesi Eninn Ernest, Chief Executive Officer of Media Excel Production, said about the event on Hitz FM Tuesday.
