Some 27 foreigners who were trying to outsmart Immigration officials to enter in neighbouring Togo through the Noepe Joint Border Post (NJBP) at Akanu in the Ketu North District have been intercepted.
The foreigners who were all West African nationals were caught last Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at about 12:30pm, when the Daf Truck on which they were traveling was searched by personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) at the border.
During an interaction with the Volta Regional PRO of the GIS, Asst. Inspector Felix Klu-Adjei, said the suspects included 14 Nigerians and 13 Nigerienes.
Among them were two drivers and a mate.
According to him, the Daf Truck with Nigerian registration number ZUR 100 ZY arrived in Ghana on Sunday 17th May, 2020 through the Akanu Border Post fully loaded with onions to be delivered in Accra.
Two days later, thus Tuesday May 19, the truck returned at about 12:30pm to use the border to exit to Togo.
However, the Immigration officers on duty at the time stopped and conducted a search on the Truck. After the search the 14 Nigerian and 13 Nigerienes were found.
The Port Health officials were immediately contacted to conduct preliminary health checks on them while arrangements were made to escort them to Accra, the national capital for further action to be taken.
