As part of efforts to honour its promises to support the creative arts industry, the Akufo-Addo led-government will be collaborating with Exclusive Events Ghana to stage Miss Ghana @60.
This, among other objectives, is expected to restore, revive and rejuvenate the relationship between Ghanaian governments and the Miss Ghana brand which has over the years not enjoyed much support from government.
The new relationship will be announced by the Tourism, Creative Arts Ministry and Ghana @60 committee at an anticipated press conference tomorrow.
This follows President Akufo-Addo’s recent commendation of the Miss Ghana organisation, indicating he was impressed with the organisation’s various social interventions which were spearheaded by various winners of the pageant when Exclusive Events Ghana, organisers of the Miss Ghana pageant, paid a courtesy call on him.
Miss Ghana winners over the years also concentrated their efforts on the aged, educational, health and environmental sectors of the Ghanaian economy.
One of the flagship projects undertaken by the Miss Ghana organisation is the Don Bosco Street Child Project.
The organisation helped acquired a 10-acre land and built a hostel, where a lot of street children and those who cannot afford to pay their fees are given technical and vocational education. In the last 10 years, it has trained a lot of youth who can also contribute their quota to society.
It also contributed immensely to minimise infant and maternal mortality rates, especially in the three northern regions. The pageant organisers also partnered with the Forestry Commission to carry out various tree planting exercises across the country.
Currently, the organisation is aiming at hosting Miss World event in Ghana, something that would promote Ghana and its culture to the world, and no wonder government’s interest.
Miss Ghana currently is the country’s oldest beauty pageant. The event was first organised on March 4, 1957, when Miss Monica Amekoafia was crowned the first Miss Ghana.
She was crowned at the Accra community centre. She was 22 years old, and the most interesting thing at that time was that she was a mother of two.
Currently, the franchise is with Exclusive Event Ghana, with Ms Inna Patty as the CEO.
