The Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Sammi Awuku drew a large audience on his maiden ‘Ofie Walk’ last Friday to energise the Akuapen North Constituency ahead of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary.

Chiefs and celebrities such as Nana Yirenkyi I, the Mampong Akuapem Apesemakahene, and Ghanaian rapper Edem, born Denning Edem Hotor, as well as comedy actors Kalybos and Bismarck the Joke, as well as movie actor and producer Prince David Osei, were among the large throng.

Mr. Awuku led the thousands of people in the mega health walk which attracted people outside the Akuapen North Constituency, with some of them wearing NPP T-shirts.

Constituents enthusiastically supported the NLA boss’ bid to become the constituency’s next Member of Parliament (MP).

Some of Ghana’s top entertainment industry figures who attended the walk openly endorsed his candidacy to lead the constituency.

Sammi Awuku already has overwhelming support from the NPP membership in the constituency.

Patrons of the health walk, largely young people, praised the event’s organisers and claimed that Sammi Awuku’s choice to run will help the party’s fortunes in the 2024 general elections.

Nana Yirenkyi I described Sammi Awuku’s Ofie health walk as historic, asserting that this had never been witnessed by Okuapeman.

Speaking to the media after the walk, Mampong Akuapem Apesemakahene said the huge crowd was incredible, and that it was an endorsement for the NLA Director General.

“Indeed, the people of Akuapem have demonstrated to the world that their next Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem North will be none other than Sammi Awuku. People had gathered as early as 4:30 a.m. for the walk, which was scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m.,” he said.

According to him, Sammi Awuku deserves the support he has received since he has been there for the people of Okuapeman.

He indicated that Sammi Awuku had been assisting Akuapem for the past eight years, and the time has come for the people to recognise him for his efforts.

“There is something he has done for the people in every town in Akuapem. We already know Sammi Awuku will develop Akuapem, and the constituency will be a better place during his tenure as MP for Akuapem North,” he explained.

Mr. Awuku, who was overjoyed and appreciative to everyone who came out to support him, promised to do everything in his power to bring development to the constituency and to assist the chiefs and people of the area as they prepare to celebrate their festivals.
