About 10 big polythene bags containing suspected human bones have been dumped on a refuse site located in-between Ayikuma and Larteh in the Eastern Region.
It is unclear how the bones which comprised skulls got dumped on the site since Friday evening, but sources said it could be the work of grave looters or spiritualists.
When contacted, the Akropong District Police Commander, Supt. Steven Tetteh, confirmed that they had visited the scene and found the said bones, and were working to unravel how they were dumped there.
He said he could neither confirm nor deny the exhibits were human bones and said they would have to conduct forensic tests to ascertain the facts.
According to him, that was not the first time such things had been found on refuse sites in the area adding that “we will be meeting the Traditional Council to discuss the way forward on that.”
Residents close to the refuse site have expressed shock at the incident, but Supt. Tetteh said the discovery of the bones had not created any fear and panic in the area as being speculated.
