Interior Ministry Hits Road

Ambrose Dery, Minister of the Interior

The Ministry of the Interior in conjunction with the Ghana Police Service will commence a nationwide exercise of Private Service Organisations (PSOs) tomorrow.

The announcement is contained in a statement issued by the Ministry’s Acting Chief Director, Mrs. Doreen P. Annan, which added that the exercise constitutes part of measures to “sensitise the public on its services as well as afford opportunities to its stakeholders to streamline their operations”.

The exercise also covers locksmiths (key cutting) and rubber stamp and seals operators.

The exercise, the statement went on, “is critical to ensure compliance to the laws which constitute the legal basis of the services rendered by the Ministry.”

The exercise will facilitate the streamlining of operations of players within the sector and allow the ministry gather comprehensive data to aid informed decision making. “Also, it will provide an avenue for the Ministry to interface with new and existing clientele and the general public,” according to the statement.

In addition, “the Ministry would be expanding its publication of Service Providers in Good Standing on its website to include the National Dailies and its social media handles. This would go a long way to sensitise the operations of the service providers and improve the security consciousness of the general public,” the statement stressed.

The Ministry of the Interior is mandated by law to ensure internal security in the country in the light of which the statement adds “we remain committed to guaranteeing that there is law and order, peace and security to create an enabling environment for business to thrive and boost the economy of Ghana.”

The ministry has accordingly called on all players within the sector to register or renew their licences to regularise their operations with the ministry to avoid sanctions.
