The student at the hospital
A Junior High School (JHS) 1 male student of the Assin Krofofrodo District Assembly Basic School in the Central Region has suffered severe machete wounds after allegedly fondling his female senior’s breast.
According to accounts from the school, the incident occurred during a campus clean-up exercise. School authorities had instructed students to weed the overgrown compound using machetes.
The JHS 1 student, who is currently receiving treatment at the district clinic, is reported to have touched his senior’s breast repeatedly during the campus clean-up exercise after being warned not to do so.
The 15-year-old JHS 2 female student said she had repeatedly warned the JHS 1 student against touching her breast. She alleged that he defied the warning and did it again during the exercise. Irritated by what she described as disrespect, she picked up a machete and slashed the boy on his inner wrist.
Parents of the injured victim have accused the school authorities over negligence to attend to their ward after the injury.
Speaking for the family, the victim’s elder sister, Joyce Enyan, accused the school of negligence after the attack. “He said a female colleague inflicted a machete wound on him while they were playing. He said he wrapped his arm around her neck and mistakenly touched her breast,” Ms. Enyan disclosed.
“The teachers didn’t pay much attention to him after the injury. He nearly passed out. His shirt was completely drenched with blood,” she added.
The family is calling on the Ghana Police Service to conduct a thorough investigation into both the attack and the school’s response.
As of press time, the school authorities have not issued an official statement on the incident.
