Kwadwo Safo Akofena
A High Court in Accra has confirmed Kwadwo Safo Akofena, son of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, as the Leader of Kristo Asafo Church following the reading of his late father’s will yesterday.
Multiple reports suggest that Akofena had been confirmed as the successor to the Kantanka Empire, dealing a big blow to her elder sister, former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo.
Osebo the Zaraman, who was at the court, indicated that members of the family, who had initially opposed Akofena’s claim to the empire, would respect the decision of the late Safo Kantanka.
“Indeed, after reading the will, it is evident that everything was bequeathed to him. Although we did not support him at the beginning, we now fully accept and embrace this decision because it was our father’s wish. We will therefore support Akofena completely in every way,” he told reporters after the reading of the will.
“If our father has willed all his properties to Akofena, I have no objections. We will all support him fully. I recall mentioning during my press conference that our father always cherished peace while he was alive. So, if we open the will and it clearly states that everything has been left to Akofena, who am I to oppose it?” Osebo added.
The Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana last month introduced Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena as the new leader of the mission.
The mission confirmed the introduction on its official Facebook page on June 21, 2026, through a congratulatory message and a video celebrating his assumption of the role.
It described the introduction as a significant milestone and prayed for wisdom, strength and divine guidance as he takes up the responsibility.
A court had earlier halted the installation of Akofena as leader of Kristo Asafo Mission after two senior members of the church, Kweku Agyenim Boateng, a former Deputy General Secretary, and Seth Appiah Richard Brown, filed a suit at the High Court in Accra challenging the legitimacy of the succession process.
The installation process itself led to Adwoa Safo sustaining gunshot injury after she had gone to the house of her younger brother on June 21.
Kwadwo Safo Akofena and eight others were arrested following the shooting incident and admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢500,000 with two sureties. They are expected back in court on September 30, 2026.
Meanwhile, family of the late Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, has revealed that the July 30 to August 1, 2026 dates set for the final burial rites remain unchanged despite Adwoa Safo’s current health status.
According to Obed Kwadwo Safo, youngest son of the late Apostle Safo Kantanka, while the current health condition of the former lawmaker Adwoa Safo worsens, the final burial rites date remains unchanged as plans are far advanced to ensure that their father receives a befitting burial.
