The organisers of the annual Ghana DJ Awards, slated for November 27 at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), have announced that this year’s edition will bring together best disc jockeys (DJs) who will compete against each other on one stage.
The event has consistently remained one of the premier music festivals in Ghana and Africa, welcoming thousands of music fans and concert goers every year.
Dubbed “Take Over”, the event is being organised by Mercury Republic to honour the country’s most hardworking and dedicated disc jockeys (DJs) who promoted Ghanaian culture through music and skilfully played music to entertain music lovers in Ghana and other parts of the world.
Award winners will take home exciting prize packages, in addition to a designed trophy which will be presented to them at the awards ceremony.
With over 25 award categories, including lifetime achievement award, best international DJ of the year, best mobile DJ of the year, artiste DJ of the year among others, the scheme is expected to draw DJs from across the country and beyond for awards and recognition.
The main objective is to recognise the electronic dance music scene, and seeks to let the world know that the art of DJ’ing is a respected craft, with DJs playing a major role in the overall music and entertainment industry.
The event will witness live stage performances from celebrated DJs such as DJ Virusky, DJ Mac Tontoh, and DJ Andy Dosty among others.
BEATWAVES gathered that all the DJs billed to perform at the awards ceremony are ready to give out their best on stage.
Performing artistes billed to rock the stage alongside the DJs include Kuami Eugene, KiDi and a host of others including surprise guest acts.
This year’s event, which is the ninth edition, is expected to be attended by top musicians, stakeholders in the creative arts industry, a cross-section of music lovers, and the general public.
Since its inception in 2012, the awards scheme has hosted a number of talented local and international DJs, as well as performing artistes on its platform.
Previous ceremonies have witnessed performances from some of the international DJs such as DJ Neptune, DJ Jimmy Jatt from Nigeria, DJ Diva Lash from South Africa, DJ Nash from France, and DJ Kofi from UK, among others.
Notable artistes who have dominated the main stage at Ghana DJ Awards include Shatta Wale, Medikal, DJ Mic Smith, DJ Que, Kuami Eugene, KiDi, Darko Vibes, Stonebwoy, DJ Vyrusky, MzVee, Kwaw Kesse, DJ Kofi, DJ Black, DJ Jimmy Jatt, and more of the hottest names in music.
