KNUST Student’s Attempted Suicide Foiled

 

A STUDENT of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi was stopped from jumping from a tall building to his death.

The student in question, said to be a male, reportedly, caused a stir as he attempted to jump from the balcony of the 8th floor of a student’s hostel on Tuesday evening.

Other fear-stricken students saw their colleague trying to end his life through suicide so they started yelling and appealing to the student not to jump and end his life.

Some students of KNUST, who are believed to be close friends of the student, managed to get to hold of him and dragged him from the balcony.

The scary episode was recorded by other students in the hostel on their phones and has since gone viral on social media, generating public discussion.

Authorities at the KNUST have not disclosed the name of the student but grapevine information said he is called Kwadwo Asare Konadu Gyamfi, a medical student.

What motivated him to try to end his life was not immediately known, giving room for people, especially his colleague students, to give speculations.

Some said the student was broken-hearted, perhaps after he was jilted by his lover.

Others also said the student tried taking way his life because he was being tormented by some unknown spirits, who influenced him attempt suicide.

Some of the rumours making rounds also said the affected student was suffering from depression and that he even wrote a note, explaining why he wanted to die.

According to reports, police are probing the case. Authorities at KNUST have also started psychological treatment for the affected student.
