Rev Isaac Amidini handing over the cash and items to Eunice Owusu
The Child Health Department of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) has called on Ghanaians to support the acquisition of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) scan machines at its Paediatric Oncology Unit (POU) where cancers are treated.
These machines are used to capture images of the body to help clinical analysis and treatment.
The Senior Nursing Officer, Child Health Department, Eunice Owusu, made the appeal when members of the North Kaneshie Assemblies of God Church, led by Rev Michael Ampofo, senior associate pastor, visited the department on Saturday to donate GH¢6,000 in cash and items, including washing detergents, provisions and four sanitiser dispensers worth the same amount.
The donation was part of activities to mark the church’s annual programme dubbed ‘Gathering of God’s Champions (GGC)’, which is scheduled for September 1 to 8 under the theme: ‘This Is My Set Time’.
She further explained that the department needs beds and more space to accommodate the increasing number of patients, adding that as of the time of visit, the department with 22-bed capacity had 26 patients on admission.
According to Madam Owusu, financial support was also needed as some patients cannot not afford the cost involved in cancer treatment, stating that some medical procedures cost about GH¢2,000.
She expressed her appreciation to the church for their gesture.
Rev. Isaac Amidini, associate pastor of the church and pastor in charge of GGC programme, said the department was chosen based on information about the financial challenges parents encounter in their bid to treat their children.
“At least the cash can be used to settle the medical bills of some of the children here,” he said.
