A section of the NPP members at Manhyia South in action
THE KUMASI Mayor, Osei Assibey Antwi, has commended the Minister for Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, aka Napo, for his decision to make the city clean.
According to the mayor, Napo, who doubles as Manhyia South MP, has always supported every effort to improve sanitation, especially in his constituency.
He told DAILY GUIDE that Napo had consistently organised clean-up exercises to create awareness on the indiscriminate disposal of rubbish which has dire consequences.
“When it comes to sanitation issues in the city, Napo and his executives have consistently played their part and they deserve applause for a good job done,” he stated.
He was speaking with the media when Napo organised a massive clean-up exercise again around the Manhyia Palace – the seat of the Asantehene – on Saturday morning.
The one-day exercise saw about 400 NPP members in the Manhyia South Constituency cleaning the surroundings of the Manhyia Palace.
The clean-up exercise, which is the brainchild of Napo, is to help beautify the surroundings of the Manhyia Palace to make Otumfuo’s 20-year anniversary grand.
Gabriel Anane, the Manhyia South NPP Chairman, said the clean-up exercise was to help make Manhyia Palace look appealing to people that would visit the place in the coming days.
Haruna Alhassan, the Manhyia South NPP Secretary, said Saturday’s event would not be a nine-day wonder, saying that it would be replicated this coming Saturday as well.
Kwabena Nsenkyire, the Ashanti Regional NPP First Vice Chairman, said there would be a clean-up exercise and free medical screening this coming Saturday at Manhyia.
Francis Adomako, the Ashanti Regional NPP Organizer, charged other NPP MPs to learn from Napo’s example, saying “Napo is a visionary leader”.
