Landslide Blocks Bogoso Junction Road

The situation on the road on Sunday evening

Hours of heavy rainfall in some parts of the Western Region on Sunday caused a major landslide that blocked the busy Akoon–Bogoso Junction road in the region.

The incident occurred near Redeemer Hospital, opposite the Gold Fields Junction, close to Tarkwa.

Large volumes of mud, rocks, and debris slid from a nearby hillside onto the road, completely obstructing vehicular movement along the stretch.

Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were recorded.

It, however, caused a significant traffic disruption and raised safety concerns for motorists and residents in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality of the region.

The blockage left motorists stranded and forced many commuters to turn or use alternative routes.

The blocked road serves as an important link for residents, workers, and commercial transport operators travelling within Tarkwa and surrounding communities.

The road users have therefore been advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes until the debris are cleared and the road is deemed safe for travel.

“This is not the first time the location has experienced such an incident,” an eyewitness disclosed.

He said a minor landslide was recorded at the same spot recently. “This is raising concerns about the stability of the hillside and the need for long-term preventive measures,” he added.

The latest landslide highlights the growing risks associated with heavy rains in Tarkwa-Bogoso area including flooding, erosion, and slope failures, particularly in communities located near steep embankments and landscapes.
