Family Value award winners at the ceremony

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has honoured four family values campaigners for their respective roles in creating opportunities to unite families through their projects.

This was at an awards night held under the theme ‘Upholding Family Values For Stronger Nation’ at the church’s headquarters in Accra on Friday.

Mrs Selikem Acolatse Apaloo, host of Women’s Voice on GBC 24;

Mrs Grace Manu, host of Efie Asetina on Atinka FM; Comfort Bediako, proprietress of Virgin Home Academy at Kasoa and Sheikh Yahaya Al-Amin, founder of Islamic Foundation for Peace & Development, were presented with citations.

Gifty Twum Ampofo, Deputy Minister of Gender Children & Social Protection, paid glowing tribute to the Church of Latter Day Saints for championing a cause which has great benefit for each family and nation.

According to her, the nation gains when family values are upheld and children grow up in confidence cultivating the right values good for nation building.

“Refusal to uphold family values creates a chaotic environment where people live in fear; good family values are a recipe for stronger family systems and consequently creating opportunities for development,” she opined.

The deputy minister, who debunked claims that poverty is accountable for the breakdown of the contemporary family system, indicated that parents of yesteryear were even poorer but upheld their dignity to bring up the children the right way.

She called on families to bury their differences and egos so as to raise their children in a manner that will make them true Africans.

“We need our children to grow up as disciplined personalities and not rogues they should always make us proud through honest means as they embrace peace and love,” she stated.
