Lawyers Warn Event Centres Over Lumba’s ‘Celebration Of Life’

Lawyers for Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu family, Baba Jamal & Associates, have issued a strong warning to event centres planning to host “Celebration of Life” programmes in honour of the late Daddy Lumba.

Addressing the media on March 25, 2026, Fati Ali Yallah of Baba Jamal & Associates said any venue that rents out its space for such events risks legal action for contempt of court.

She explained that an interlocutory injunction granted by the High Court in Accra effectively bars all “Celebration of Life” events linked to the late musician, regardless of who is organising them.

“We will go after every event centre that hosts it,” she said. “Anyone who disregards the court’s ruling will be dealt with accordingly.”

The warning extends beyond venues to include individuals and businesses providing services for the events. Suppliers of chairs, souvenirs, or branded items bearing Daddy Lumba’s name or image could also face sanctions.

Ms. Yallah stressed that attempts to rebrand the events under different names or organisers would not escape the injunction.

“Whether it is organised by Akosua Serwaa Schindler, Papa Shee, or Wofa Yaw Poku, as long as it is a ‘Celebration of Life’ event, it falls under the court order,” she stated.

In a statement issued the same day, the law firm confirmed that the court order restrains named individuals and their agents from organising, promoting, or hosting any such events.

The injunction also covers planned gatherings scheduled for March 28 and 29, 2026, at Independence Square or any other location.

The case has been adjourned as legal proceedings continue.
