Lordina and John Mahama
Former President John Dramani Mahama has said the reason his wife former First Lady Lordina Mahama is not on the campaign trail is that she is ‘traumatised.’
According to him, there were all sorts of falsehood peddled against his wife when the NDC was in power and that has made her to take a back seat.
“She was there when we launched the manifesto and other things. She is giving me the appropriate support from the back,” he said on Asempa FM.
He said that “but part of it is that when we were in government a lot of things were said about her that were not true. A lot of lies. She was a bit traumatised by the experience so she has decided to take a slightly back role and let me do my politics so she can give encouragement in the background so we won’t go through that kind of experience again.”
Asked what Mrs. Mahama will do when the NDC wins the December 7 election when the party returns to government, Mr. Mahama said, “When we win, she will play a more back role.”
He then said, “God being so good, we will have a female vice-president. At least, we will have somebody on the table to take up women’s issues and things and it won’t be the first lady’s work and all that.”
“She has her own foundation looking into the welfare of orphanages and the witches camp and she has continued to do that. She adopted the Gambaga Witches Camp and looking at the old ladies there.”
“She will continue doing that but the main issues of women empowerment and all that, we will have a vice-president and the Ministry of Women Empowerment championing all that.
