Lower Manya Krobo MCE MeetsThe Press

The MCE Addressing the forum

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Lower Manya Krobo in the Eastern Region, Simeon Tetteh, has said the Akufo-Addo government is committed towards the development of the area in line with the President’s vision to ensure that there is equitable distribution of national resources for the growth of the country.

At a meet-the-press forum held at Odumase-Krobo, the MCE highlighted some of the projects the government had embarked on under his administration and added that when he took over the assembly, it was saddled with a debt of about GH¢2 million but by virtue of prudent management he had reduced the debt and was determined to clear it.

He said the biggest challenge confronting the assembly was revenue generation because some residents and other businesses were reluctant to pay the needed taxes to aid the development of the area.

The MCE said the municipality was benefiting from the government’s ‘Planting for Food and Jobs’ initiative where more than 2,500 farmers had been supplied with farming inputs at a very subsidized cost.

“The municipality is also benefiting from the Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) programme. Under this programme, 32,000 mango seedlings have been raised and distributed to farmers,” he disclosed.

He said he inherited about four projects which had since been completed and handed over to beneficiary communities, with some ongoing projects. “It is my resolve to complete all so that we don’t get any abandoned project in the area,” he added.

The MCE noted that they had received a share in the 25-district $100 million Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme (GSCSP) through which the Agormanya Market would be redeveloped into a modern market with 300 lockable stores, 2,500 sheds, a police station, a crèche and a banking hall.

Besides, he said they had constructed 10 boreholes in the various locations in the municipality, adding that tarring of 10 kilometres of town roads for the area was ongoing.
