The nomination of the Member of Parliament representing the Bawku Central Constituency in the Upper East Region, Mahama Ayariga has resulted in some separate jubilations in various suburbs of the constituency.

The Bawku MP has enjoyed so much support from the constituency, just as the National Democratic Congress since 2004, and therefore, jubilations are expected, especially, when the electorates see the nomination as a reward for their loyalty to the ruling government.

A member of the Mahama Ayariga Campaign team and member of the Upper East Regional Zongo Caucus, Alhaji Mohammed Mashood in an exclusive interview with the Daily Guide said Hon. Mahama Ayariga’s nomination is very appropriate, considering his experience in parliament and politics in general.

“He is solid and one of the best choices the NDC could have made. I look forward to his leadership of the Majority Caucus in Parliament. Hon. Ayariga is principled and disciplined in thought and speech. A brilliant choice for the Majority leader position and “leader of Government Business” in Parliament.”

Earlier, this year, Alhaji Mohammed Mashood had called on President Mahama to reciprocate the support from the Bawku Traditional Area and the Upper East Region with strategic appointment and commit himself to the return of peace to the Bawku area.

President John Dramani Mahama on January 14, 2025, paid a working visit to the Bawku Municipality to discuss possible ways to return lasting peace to the area.

The President’s visit, according to Alhaji Mashood is a show of commitment to the development of Bawku and the residents.

“It is our prayer that the government moves fast to put in place measures to start the journey towards a lasting peace for boost business confidence. Business is not booming like some years past, all because of the situation we find ourselves in, in the Bawku Municipality.”

Alhaji Mashood called on other persons appointed by the President to occupy various positions, to have their constituencies and the country at heart, and to always do what is right at all times.

“This is what Cadres do; that is the spirit behind the NDC. As a former Executive member and a Cadre, what I know is that, if you are given a position to occupy, it is for the good of the people and the country as a whole. Political positions are not for enjoyment, it is an opportunity to serve, that is the Cadre spirit and every NDC member must know this.”

The Upper East Region as at the time of filing this report on Thursday, January 16, has had three persons appointed by the President to serve in his government.

The nominees are the member of Parliament for the Bolgatanga East Constituency, Dr. Dominic Ayine, the Member of Parliament for the Bawku Central Constituency, and the NDC’s longest-serving party executive in the Upper East Region, Donatus Akamugri, who will serve as the Upper East Regional Minister.
