As the country prepares for the 2024 elections, two contrasting visions for youth empowerment have emerged.
Former President and flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has promised to establish goat, birds rearing, and baking businesses for party members.
On the other hand, the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has unveiled a comprehensive digitalization agenda aimed at empowering young people with tech jobs and coding skills.
Mr Mahama’s promise, made during a campaign at Yeji Lorry Station, aims to provide party members with the resources needed to start their own poultry farms.
He stated that the next NDC administration will cover the cost of birds, feed, and hen coops, allowing farmers to sell eggs and birds to generate income.
Mahama emphasized that the NDC is committed to empowering Ghanaian youth through entrepreneurship and skills development, including:
– Establishing poultry farm businesses for party members and providing resources, including hen coops, chickens, and feed
– Providing funding and support for young entrepreneurs to start and grow their own businesses
– Offering skills training and development programs in areas such as agriculture, technology, and vocational skills
– Creating jobs and opportunities for young people in the public and private sectors
– Providing access to mentorship, networking, and resources for young entrepreneurs
“The next NDC administration will offer people the chance to launch new businesses. If you wish to start a poultry farm, we will buy the hens for you, offer you money to feed the animals, and equip you with the hen coop. We believe in empowering our youth to become entrepreneurs and job creators, rather than just job seekers,” Mahama stated.
The NDC’s youth empowerment plan is designed to address the challenges facing young people in Ghana, including unemployment, lack of access to resources and funding, and limited opportunities for skills development.
By supporting young entrepreneurs and providing access to resources and funding, the NDC aims to create a vibrant and dynamic economy that benefits all Ghanaians.
Bawumia’s Vision
In a bid to tackle youth unemployment and drive economic growth, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has unveiled a comprehensive digitalization agenda as part of its 2024 Manifesto.
The plan, championed by Presidential Candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, promises to create jobs for the youth and promote entrepreneurship in the digital sector.
According to Dr. Bawumia, the NPP will establish a Digital Economy Development Programme to equip young people with the skills and resources needed to thrive in the digital economy.
This initiative is expected to address the shortage of skilled tech professionals in Ghana and provide young people with in-demand skills.
The NPP’s digitalization agenda is built around four key pillars:
– Expanding access to digital infrastructure
– Establishing coding schools and programs
– Creating digital innovation hubs
– Providing funding and mentorship for digital startups
By leveraging these pillars, the NPP aims to unlock the potential of Ghana’s youth and position the country as a leader in the digital age.
The party’s vision is to create a digital economy that is inclusive, innovative, and sustainable, with young people at its core.
As the country prepares for the 2024 elections, Dr. Bawumia’s digitalization agenda is likely to resonate with many young people who are eager for opportunities to improve their lives.
With its focus on job creation, entrepreneurship, and innovation, the agenda promises to drive economic growth and reduce unemployment.
Many Ghanaians have hailed Dr. Bawumia’s agenda as a game-changer for the country’s youth.
