Megaphones Of Doom, Gloom

John Mahama

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has a Herculean task to break the eight, but as Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia said, “it is possible.”

The task ahead requires hard work and unity of purpose, and that is why the present leadership led by affable Stephen Ntim must immediately embark on an outreach to mend the fences to bring all supporters on board for another sweet victory on December 7, 2024. Some ugly noises coming from certain quarters of the NPP do not portend unity of purpose for the task ahead.

The main contenders of the NPP, the opposition NDC, are no match in the true sense of the word, but that is why it has assembled a team of propagandists including journalists, commentators, civil society groups and academia to serve as megaphones of gloom and doom to whitewash the NDC and its leader John Mahama as the saviours of the country.

In spite of the inability of the NDC to tell Ghanaians how it hopes to solve the economic challenges, these so-called independent thinkers of our time like Professor Ransford Gyampo and Lawyer Martin Kpebu are struggling to project John Mahama as the obvious alternative although they are aware that choice is a white Sepulchre.

If the NDC and its leaders are patriots, they would not groan when the second tranche of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout was released. We have warned that the NPP is dealing with opponents who are more devious and dangerous than the serpent that deceived Adam and Eve to enjoy comfort in the Garden of Eden.

The NDC and its naysayers should not be allowed to deceive Ghanaians to vote for John Mahama because of the temporary challenges that are global in outlook to fail to manage the power sector for another session with dumsor. However, these challenges require that the Finance Minister, Nana Yaw Kuntunkununku Ken Ofori-Atta would apply the support from the IMF to help ease the pain on the people.

The performance of the economy and its impact on the people hold the key to the success of the government’s mantra to break the eight.

This man seeking our mandate must be examined properly by the electorate. Even young people who tie the knot these days do not fancy honeymoon and then someone seeking to be President is asking for space to rest in these trying times.

What it means almost eight years in opposition, John Mahama has no clue to fixing Ghana’s challenges. When J.A. Kufuor assumed office, Ghana was broke but he hit the ground running declaring the country HIPC, so that he could receive some funds from donors to resurrect the economy.

Under late Professor J.E.A Mills, when his people said Ghana was broke, his Finance Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor said it was a lie, and they hit the ground running.

If for anything, is John Mahama saying that he learnt nothing from Prof. Mills that hard work pays? Perhaps, that is why John Mahama when given the mandate to rule from 2012 to 2016 subjected us to over four years of dumsor. Ghanaians, to be forewarned is to be forearmed. We do not need any President who in January 2025, would be chilling on honeymoon, while the nation looks for solutions to their problems.

Ghana is not ready for a President on honeymoon, but certainly a person like Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia who sees limitless opportunities and does not need the luxury of honeymoon but to hit the ground running to ease the burden of the people. Same way when Nana Akufo-Addo took office he said he was in hurry, and we believe Dr. Bawumia has imbued the virtues of hard work, discipline and a determination to succeed in building an enduring economy and society.
