MoMo Agents Get Insurance Cover

MTN Ghana has launched an insurance policy for agents of its mobile money (MoMo) services across the country with insurance providers, Enterprise Life.

The policy is aimed at supporting and appreciating the work of the agents by providing them with some form of cushion should they experience any life-threatening event such as loss of life, disability, hospitalization, armed robbery attacks, death among others.

The package also covers two nominated lives by the agent.

Addressing journalists at a press launch at the MTN House in Accra, General Manager of Mobile Money Ghana Limited, Eli Hini, said he believed that the policy would go a long way to provide the needed support to the agents during trying times.

On the agents, Mr. Hini stressed that “They are a critical group to the success of the ecosystem. Their safety, comfort and longevity is a priority for us.”

He counselled them to work hard and “do the right thing” to ensure that they are in a position to benefit from the insurance scheme should anything happen.

He added that his outfit had done “a lot” to recognize the efforts of agents such as the institution of Agents Awards scheme and the donation of motorbikes, kiosks and vehicles as well as sending about 10 agents to Dubai for an experience.

Jacqueline Benyi, Managing Director of Enterprise Life, on her part, described the policy as “tailor-made for all agents,” saying the relationship between her outfit and MTN has been enriched by the gesture to “give real-life value to all agents across the country.”

She assured that Enterprise Life would work to provide the “desired advantage” of the agents; adding that structures to insure the agents have been put in place.

Ama Bawuah, from the GG & B Partners Brokerage, official insurance brokers of the policy said, “Having life insurance cover is an essential life planning tool.”

She said her outfit would bring to bear their excellence and expertise in ensuring that agents receive top-notch services from Enterprise Life and other stakeholders; while promising that claims will be paid fully and speedily directly to the agents.

“We will be the first point person to interact with between MTN, the agents and Enterprise Life. There should not be a time where an agent will think or feel the procedures are too long,” she said.

Secretary of the Mobile Money Advocacy Group (MOMAG), Asem Eliah, described the move as “a dream come true.”

“This gives us the assurance that you (MTN) are with us, you love us and we as children believe that as mothers, you have as at your backs.

“We will contribute our best to ensure that MTN MoMo is made a great business,” she added.

MTN has about 192,000 agents across the nation.
