Emmanuel Atta Ofori Snr
The Kwahu South District Assembly in the Eastern Region has failed to elect a Presiding Member (PM) for the fourth consecutive time to steer its affairs.
Since December, 2017, the assembly has organized four elections to elect a new PM.
The incumbent Presiding Member (PM), Frank Samuel Ofosu Kissi and government appointee, Benjamin Boateng, obtained 15 and 21 votes respectively, over the weekend, which failed to meet the required two-thirds majority.
This means that the incumbent PM, Frank Samuel Ofosu Kissi, would remain as the presiding member.
Emmanuel Atta Ofori Snr. the Mpreaso District Chief Executive (DCE), who expressed worry over the outcome of the polls, urged the assembly members to remain united and deepen internal democracy.
The DCE also pleaded with assembly members to provide information for the smooth running of the assembly.
He added that the assembly has decided to allow some private service providers to collect revenue on their behalf.
This, according to him, would help increase revenue of the assembly.
Touching on the auction of four vehicles, including three pick-ups and a refuse truck which fetched GH¢82,200 on 12th April, 2018, Mr. Atta Ofori disclosed that seven percent of the amount had been paid to the auctioneer while the remaining GH¢76,446 had been paid into the account of the assembly.
A new date has not been announced for the next polls.
