MTN officials donating the beds to the health facilities
MTN Ghana has donated a total of 3,888 hospital beds and medical accessories to seven public health facilities across the country as part of its 2026 “21 Days of Y’ello Care” campaign.
The donation also forms the flagship project of the telecom company’s 30th anniversary celebrations in Ghana. It includes refurbished beds, ward screens, drip stands, metallic cabinets, three-in-one patient chairs and other essential equipment aimed at easing pressure on hospital wards and improving patient care.
The beneficiary facilities are Achimota Hospital, Mamprobi General Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, Eastern Regional Hospital, Ho Teaching Hospital and Tamale Teaching Hospital.
As part of the campaign, the company also installed 30 handwashing stations in 16 schools across the country’s 16 regions, organised health outreaches, trained community health champions and settled medical bills for patients who could not afford them.
The Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN Ghana, Adwoa Wiafe, said the project demonstrates how the company’s investments are creating meaningful impact in the healthcare sector.
The Medical Superintendent of Achimota Hospital, Dr. Jackline Anita Sowah, described the donation as “timely,” saying it would improve patient comfort, enhance service delivery and reduce pressure on the hospital’s resources.
Dr. Sowah disclosed that Achimota Hospital recorded 113,670 outpatient visits last year, representing a three per cent year-on-year increase. Admissions also rose by three percent to 5,931.
She added that the hospital handled 1,593 deliveries, a seven per cent increase, and provided child welfare services to more than 20,000 children. The facility also operates specialist clinics for sickle cell disease, haematology, asthma and urology.
She used the occasion to appeal for additional support to construct an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), expand the hospital’s theatre, upgrade the VIP ward, procure anaesthesia machines and patient monitors, and rehabilitate the deteriorating access road leading to the facility.
In addition, MTN Ghana’s partnership with DOSH Health Insurance will provide a GH¢1 million health insurance support package for patients who have been medically discharged but are unable to settle their hospital bills.
The programme is expected to benefit about 100 patients across selected healthcare facilities.
