Kojo-Ganson speaking at the gaming conference
Telecoms giant, MTN Ghana, has held the maiden edition of its gaming conference.
The conference was held at the Accra Digital Centre on Friday, August 30, 2019, bringing together technology experts and gamers to brainstorm on ways to develop the gaming industry in Ghana.
Speaking at the conference, Chief Marketing Officer of MTN Ghana, Noel Kojo-Ganson, said the world of video games globally has become an economic and creative reality. Technological advancement, he noted, has brought about significant growth to the video gaming industry – readily making access possible for majority of individuals.
Undoubtedly, gaming has been touted as one of the fastest growing segments in the global media and entertainment industry, according to him.
Locally, he stated, there were several individuals telling their exploits in FIFA, Minecraft, Grand Theft Auto and Fortnight.
“These are often the recreation aspects of the gaming industry that we may be aware of. However, the possibilities are not limited to its recreational aspects, the video game industry is an industry that employs a significant number of people,” he said.
According to the latest report by Newzoo, gaming generated more than €100 billion worldwide in 2018.
In an article that cites the Newzoo report, CNBC points out that the amount represents an increase of more than 13 percent compared to the previous year.
Ghana can take a cue from this to reduce the percentage of unemployed people if the Gaming Industry is well developed, he said.
As the leader in the telecommunication sector, he underscored, MTN has made some great strides in unearthing talents in the Game industry through our Apps Challenge and MTN Shortz competitions organized over the years.
“We have had very good Games emerging as winners out of these competitions Eg the Oware 3D app,” he said.
