MUSIGA Holds Free Health Screening

A scene from the health screening exercise

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) held a free health screening exercise and music business seminar for its members last week in Accra as part of activities lined-up in celebration of Ghana Music Month.
A number of events have been planned to celebrate the month-long Ghana Music Month, which is a celebration of Ghanaian music.
These include musical performances, a dialogue about the business of African music, among others.

Hundreds of musicians participated in the health screening event, which was organised by MUSIGA in collaboration with Gyaesu Herbal Clinic and the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA).

Among the services provided by the free health screening team were blood pressure checks, dental and eye exams, general consultations, and tests for malaria.
Participants of the health screening exercise also received complementary medical counseling.
MUSIGA arranged a music seminar in addition to the free health screening exercise to motivate its members to utilise internet platforms to advertise their diverse musical compositions.

The seminar gave participants a platform to comprehend and take advantage of opportunities in global emerging markets.
Members learned about current developments in the field of digital marketing from the lecture as well.
MUSIGA president, Bessa Simons, stated in an interview that the union places a high priority on the well-being of its members, which is why it decided to hold the health screening and music business seminar.

Mr. Emmanuel Boahen, a lecturer at Valley View University who spoke at the seminar, discussed the need for professional preparation of musicians and the necessity for up-and-coming artistes to look into alternate sources of income.
He noted that because the music business is so unpredictable, it’s critical that artistes be ready for everything.
He counseled musicians who get paid for their profession to make significant investments that will help them out when things get tough.

Musicians were challenged by Ahuma Bosco Ocansey, Director of Communications and Special Projects at MUSIGA, to collaborate with tour and event organisers to create tour packages with a musical theme.
