The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has written to the Electoral Commission (EC), requesting for specific documents to prepare its agents adequately for the voters registration exercise ahead of elections 2020.
The opposition party’s demand appears to indicate that it is softening its grounds on its earlier rejection for a new register.
The three documents requested in the letter included: training manual for registration officials for 2020 registration exercise, training manual for political party agents for the registration exercise, other documents and forms relevant to the 2020 registration exercise.
In the letter dated May 18, 2020, and signed by its General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, NDC says “as a major stakeholder whose agents have important function to perform during the exercise to ensure its credibility, we are by this letter officially requesting the commission to supply the NDC with the above named documents and any other material that would enable the party prepare our agents adequately for same.”
The NDC had publicly been accusing the EC forcing its way through to conduct the registration exercise in the midst of coronavirus.
