VICE PRESIDENT Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has thanked the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II over his election as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
This was when the NPP presidential candidate for the 2024 election stormed the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, the official seat of the Asante Monarch, last Monday evening.
According to close sources in Dr. Bawumia’s camp, the Vice President stormed the palace on a quite note to meet the Asantehene, whom he regard as his father.
They informed the DAILY GUIDE that the meeting between the two top dignitaries was held in camera, adding that Dr. Bawumia was at the palace to show gratitude to Otumfuo.
Dr. Bawumia, the sources disclosed, also made it clear that the Asantehene’s spiritual and physical support contributed to his victory, so he was grateful to him.
According to them, Dr. Bawumia narrated his plans for the country if elected as president in 2024 to Otumfuo, and asked for the King’s support to realise his ambition.
The sources, who demanded anonymity, also disclosed that Dr. Bawumia used the occasion to personally appeal to Otumfuo for his continuous support and wise counsel.
Dr. Bawumia, it would be recalled, won the NPP presidential polls, held on Saturday, November 4, with 61.47 per cent of the valid votes cast.
Prior to Saturday’s election, the Vice President had earlier on won the NPP Special Delegates election, which was used to reduce the number of aspirants from 10 to five.
Right after emerging as the winner of the Special Delegates election, Dr. Bawumia stormed the Manhyia Palace to offer similar thanks to Otumfuo for his support.
