KILLED!Mark Ofori
The Takoradi Constituency Treasurer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mark Ofori, has been shot dead at his residence at Fijai in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.
He was killed in his home at about 2 am yesterday, and the police suspect it was done by armed robbers.
According to some residents, the assailants went straight to the victim’s bedroom and shot him in the chest, killing him instantly. Preliminary checks showed that they did not take anything from the house.
Kwame Wiredu, brother of the deceased, who was in the house when the incident occurred, claimed that he got up to go to the kitchen to drink water and heard sporadic gunshots in the room his brother was sleeping in.
“So I decided to go there and see what was happening. I saw my brother lying in a pool of blood dead and suddenly one of the assailants rushed on me. In the process, I struggled with him for some time and shouted for help but no one came to our rescue. The assailant used his gun to hit my head and shot my right hand,” Wiredu, who is currently receiving treatment at a certain hospital, narrated.
He said the attackers left the house without taking anything along.
The Western Regional Police Commander, DCOP Vincent Redeemer Dedjoe, and some crime scene experts visited the scene. According to sources, investigation has commenced earnestly.
The Takoradi Constituency has been thrown into a state of shock following the incident as scores of NPP activists defied the heavy downpour yesterday and gathered at the constituency office to mourn their departed colleague.
