Former President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bice Osei Kuffour, aka Obour, who lost the bid to become the NPP parliamentary candidate for the Asante Akyem South Constituency, has expressed appreciation to his campaign team for their unrelenting efforts in helping him achieve his ambitions.
The Konkontibaa hitmaker was bidding to represent the people of the Asante Akyem South Constituency in the Ashanti Region in Parliament but unfortunately he failed to unseat incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Kwaku Asante Boateng.
With a total tally of 296 votes, Obour lost to Mr. Asante-Boateng, who polled a total of 360 votes.
Other aspirants who contested for the seat are Edmond Oppong-Peprah, William Yamoah and Eric Amofa.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, Obour congratulated Mr Asante-Boateng on his victory and assured him of his support.
He also expressed his appreciation to the people in the Asante Akyem Constituency for their support even after he lost.
“Although I did not win, I sincerely believe the contest has really energized the base of our great party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in Asante Akyem South and lubricated its machinery for the bigger battle with our known opponents, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for election 2020,” Obour stated.
“This is my first time of coming into the race and I think the delegates of Asante Akyem South have really shown me love. I will be back in grand style,” he added.
He further said “I want to say to him that it is time to roll our sleeves and hit the ground running to consolidate our gains in the 2020 general elections with the NDC and I fully assure him of my support to ensure that we secure a further 10,000 plus votes for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the 2020 elections.”
He, however, thanked all the delegates for their love and support, “those who voted for me and those who did not vote for me. For the general constituency populace, the love was overwhelming. Even in defeat you sang my praise and the cheers deafening.”
Again he thanked the leadership of the NPP at both the constituency, regional and national levels for giving him the opportunity to contest the Asante Akyem South parliamentary primary.
In a related development, comedian, DKB, has sent out a consolable message to Obour after losing the election.
DKB, in the video, was heard saying Obour should not worry because he had been a President before, since he was the President of Edem, who reps Volta Region and Wiyaala, who represents the Northern sector and other musicians who represent various towns, cities and regions.
