Okere NDC Candidate In Trouble

The magistrate court at Mampong Akuapem in the Eastern Region has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the aspiring Member of Parliament (MP) on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Okere Constituency, Michael Ofori Offei aka Nana Kakra. He is said to be an accomplice to a suspected fraudster, Kofi Antwi, a self-styled businessman.

The said Kofi Antwi reportedly defrauded one Michael Anim Bediako, a footballer, to the tune of GH¢6,800.00 on 23rd February, 2016 under the pretext of sending him to Europe to pursue his football career.

After this, Kofi Antwi allegedly refused to answer his phone calls.

After excessive pressure, he purportedly directed Michael Bediako to his alleged accomplice, Nana Kakra, through phone who assured him (Bediako) that he (Nana Kakra) would retrieve the money.

The alleged fraudster reportedly issued three cheques on three different occasions which bounced, making him go into hiding.

On 7th May, 2016, upon a tip-off, Kofi Antwi was arrested at Akropong heavily drunk and sleeping in his airconditioned car. He was taken into police custody at Mamfe Akuapem.

The alleged accomplice, the Okere NDC parliamentary candidate, bailed and stood surety for him (Kofi Antwi).

On 3rd June, 2016 Antwi and the surety, together with the complainant, met with the police at Akropong  where both Nana Kakra and Kofi Antwi agreed to the incident and also agreed to pay the GH¢6,800 on 10th June, 2016. Till date, Antwi has not surfaced likewise the surety.

The police processed the necessary documents and served them on the parliamentary aspirant to appear before the Mampong Akuapem magistrate court on June 30, 2016 with Kofi Antwi.

Meanwhile, both the Antwi and the surety are currently at large.
