THE Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin who is the President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs has suspended hearings of all customary cases before the Judicial Committee of the House for a month due to the coronavirus pandemic.
A statement signed on his behalf said “Courtesy calls and visits to various palaces by groups be suspended until further notice.”
According to the statement, “all funerals, one week and forty days observances and all outdooring ritual activities have also been suspended”.
The statement said it is in line with the President’s directive on public gatherings as part of the effort to stop the covid-19
The President, in order to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease, issued a 14-day lockdown in Accra, Tema, Kumasi and Kasoa with only emergency movements allowed.
The Eastern Regional House of Chiefs has, therefore, urged the public to adhere to the lockdown and “not travel to the designated restricted areas of Accra and Kumasi.”
The House of Chiefs further appealed to the public to respect and adhere to the instructions of the health authorities and government to help contain the pandemic.
