Azumah Nelson and JJ Rawlings
Boxing great Azumah has revealed that it took the wise counsel of ex-President Jerry John Rawlings to save his illustrious pugilistic career.
He described the statesman’s advice which became eminent as prophesy, and admitted he eternally owes him tonnes of thanks.
The boxing hall of famer pointed out that his disciplinarian background informed his decision to join the military at the early stages of his career.
But he said on Y FM that he took the former AFRC leader’s admonishing in good faith and stuck to his first love (boxing).
“I liked the discipline in the military. As a disciplined person myself, I wanted to join them. But JJ Rawlings talked me out of it,” the boxing professor said.
“He told me I had a gift as a boxer and encouraged me to pursue it. I can say he is a prophet in my life. I became a world champion and have been appreciative of him ever since,” the ‘Terrible Terror’, Zoom Zoom, as he was affectionately called, added.
Azumah, a three-weight division world title holder, reigned with significant wins spanning a period of a decade.
