Ruth Kadiri
Nigerian filmmaker, Ruth Kadiri, has expressed worry over Ghanaian TV stations constantly showing movies she produced without any prior permission from her.
In a video in circulation, she described the act as disappointing, adding that she won’t hesitate to go to court if it continues.
“I love the country as a whole, but I am very disappointed that a major TV station in Ghana would take content from my platform, use it without permission, and broadcast it as if they have the licence to do so. It’s not just one, it’s not two, and it’s not three. I don’t want to watermark my content because I think it will make it look tacky. This is the first warning, and it will be the last one,” she said.
“The next time, you’ll hear from my lawyers,” Kadiri added and pleaded for respect for content creators’ intellectual property rights, and encouraged TV stations to purchase content legally rather than infringe upon copyrights.
