Volta NDC Chairman, ‘Brigadier’ Ametefe Dethroned

 

Delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region have dethroned the incumbent Regional Chairman, Henry Kwadwo Ametefe; aka ‘the Brigadier’ at their just-ended delegates conference.

Mr. Ametefe who is a known cadre and an active member of the party since its inception in 1992 lost to his toughest contender, Mawutor Agbavitor.

The defeat which came to his supporters as a shock has been described as a befitting opportunity for the ‘old dog’ to retire after years of meritorious service to the party.
He polled 130 votes against the 203 votes of the winner, Agbavitor.

George Loh, a one time MP for North Dayi and had served in a Vice Chairman position before the election garnered the second-highest votes for the chairmanship spot; 181 votes.

Other contestants for the position are Francis Doh, 62 votes, and Marshal Emil Ackumey, five votes.

Egypt Kudoto, the long-time aide to former Transport Minister, the late Dzifa Ativor beat competition from four others to become the First Vice Chairman with 220 votes.
Divine Fiakpui who came second with 193 votes is the new Second Vice Chairman.

James Gunu retained his position as a Regional Secretary with a resounding victory as he polled 456 votes, representing 78.6% of the votes cast. Albert Sakabutu and Gladstone Stanley who contested him managed to get 110 and 14 votes respectively. Bright Kwashie Ege also beat two others to become Deputy Regional Secretary.

Siki Abibu retained his position as Regional Organiser after beating Chester Ati, a long-time aidd to Fifi Kwetey with 358 as against 222 votes. Three others lost to Elliot Wogbe who secured the Deputy Organiser slot.

Daniel Agboka Dzegede is the Regional Treasurer. He is deputised by Evelyn Gaglonu.

Kafui Agbleze retained his position as the Regional Communications Officer; as did his Deputy, Bright Delali Kugbeazor.

Delphia Fafa Agbai clinched the Women’s Organiser position as did her two deputies; Cynthia Affafa Woayor and Ann Awo Galley.

Hajia Hawa Tahiru beat Alhaji Bello Misbaw and Iddrisu Mubarak to become the Zongo Caucus Coordinator.

Mathias Alagbo retained the Youth Organizer position while Kwame Asiemoa Junior and Johnson Samlafo deputise him in that order.

The election ended smoothly with the New Regional Chairman thanking delegates for the confidence reposed in them.

He assured that a new Volta NDC has been birthed; one that will be vibrant and can deliver victory for the NDC in 2024.
