Voters’ Register Exhibition: Accra EC Recruits Agitated Over Pay

One of the officers indicated that, he was not even sure of how much he is to receive as remuneration.According to him, “We are working without knowing our salary… they [EC] told me it is 400. My friends sometimes say it is 500, some too say 350.”

“When we keep asking them, they keep telling us they [EC] will pay but they don’t give us the exact amount they will be giving to us,” another officer lamented.

The officials have called on the EC Chair, Charlotte Osei, to address the matter before the end of the exercise.

“Right now we want Charlotte Osei to come out and state it clearly that this is the exact amount we are supposed to pay to the officers at the end of the exercise,” an officer asserted.

One other further suggested that, the possibility of a protest if the eventual remuneration announced is not favorable.

“I will protest or just form an organisation to go on a demonstration,” he stated.

Protests from Tamale

The exhibition and re-registration exercise in the Tamale Metropolitan area has also seen similar complaints over remuneration.

Some of the recruits have threatened to boycott the exercise over the allowances meant for the 21-days. According to them, their checks revealed that their colleagues in other regions are to receive GHc720, whereas they will collect GHc 400 at the end of the exercise.

They also declared their stance in protest against the GHc30 given to them as allowances, after undergoing a three-day intensive capacity building workshop ahead of the exercise.

According to them, their colleagues in other districts within the Northern Region received GHc 60 cedis for the same workshop.

When Citi News visited some of the exhibition centres, the angry EC recruits were busy at post, but insisted no amount of persuasion will convince them except an increase in the allowances.
