Nana Osei with suspected Indian hemp, wrapped in brown envelopes
A 34-YEAR-old suspected dealer in Indian hemp, popularly called ‘wee’, has been apprehended during a police swoop at a ghetto in Jamase Kyekyewere in the Ashanti Region.
Suspect Osei Kwame aka ‘Nana Osei’ was in possession of 110 wrappers of dried leaves, suspected to be ‘wee’ when he was nabbed by a police team.
The suspect was detained at the Agona District Police Headquarters as police investigations into the case are ongoing.
A police report said the police in Agona and Jamase gathered that some ‘wee’ dealers were making brisk business in Jamase Kyekyewere so on November 18, 2021, the police decided to embark on a swoop at the known ‘wee’ ghetto in Jamase Kyekyewere to stop the illegal trade.
“Jamase and Agona CPA embarked on a swoop at Jamasi Kyekyewere at a ghetto commonly called Ampedwee and arrested suspect Osei Kwame aka Nana Osei aged 34 together with 110 wrappers of dried leaves.
“Quantities of dried leaves, concealed in a cement paper and a compressed half slab parcel in brown envelope all suspected to be narcotic drugs (Indian hemp), were found on him at the ghetto,” the police said.
“Suspect Osei Kwame aka Nana Osei was later brought to DHQ/Agona for detention whilst the exhibits are retained for further investigation.”
The police, the report indicated, were currently doing everything possible to trace the main supplier of the illegal substances.
