11 Jailed In Kumasi

ELEVEN PEOPLE have been jailed one-month each for breaching sanitation laws in the Kumasi Metropolis.

The Kumasi Mayor, Osei Assibey Antwi, disclosed that the eleven people were caught dumping heaps of waste at unapproved sites.

According to him, a task force of the Kumasi Metropolis Assembly (KMA), who are always alert, managed to apprehend the eleven people.

The KMA boss said the arrests, which were made at different times and locations in the city, took place within November and December 2017.

Mr. Osei Assibey lauded the various courts in city for the swift handling of the case.

He stated that KMA is determined to arrest and prosecute anyone that breaches the sanitation laws to serve as deterrent to others.

Mr Osei Assibey Antwi was addressing newsmen when the KMA organized a clean-up exercise across the city over the weekend.

He explained that the clean-up exercise was intended to make Kumasi do away with filth before Tuesday, which is Ghana’s 61st Independence Day.

The Mayor who personally swept the streets and cleared choked gutters, said all the nine sub-metros in the city took part in the clean-up exercise.

According to him, henceforth people, who may decide to keep their surroundings filthy would be arrested to face the law.

He stressed on the need for the city dwellers to stay in a healthy environment to avert the outbreak of diseases.

The clean-up exercise was graced by Ing Nana Poku Agyeman, the Kumasi Roads Chief and other KMA executives.
