2 Arrested Over Kidnapping

TWO PEOPLE have been arrested on suspicion of abducting and kidnapping one Osei Kwaku said to be the Kokobra Electoral Area Coordinator of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ejisu Constituency of the Ashanti Region.

The suspects are Kwame Adom Boakye, the NPP Ejisu Research and Election Officer; and George Appiah Kubi, Ejisu NPP Deputy Organiser.

The victim was reportedly taken on Tuesday around 1:00 pm to unknown destination when the duo, in the company of suspected machomen, stormed the Kokobra Electoral Area where Osei was supervising an internal party registration exercise.

The NPP has opened registration to build new albums at the polling station and constituency levels ahead of its internal primaries to elect officers to steer the affairs of the party for the next four years.

The registration exercise, according to the Acting General Secretary, John Boadu, will end on December 31, 2017 for polling station elections to begin on January 15, 2018.

ASP Juliana Obeng, Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, confirmed the alleged kidnapping of Osei Kwaku and told DAILY GUIDE that there were efforts at the divisional and regional police commands to locate the victim who remains missing.

According to her, the police also had in custody suspects, Kwame Adom Boakye and George Appiah Kubi, to assist officers in finding the victim.

“These are persons who had gone with a taxi cab and a Hyundai Tucson car to pick the missing person to Onwe. The suspects claimed they went with Osei Kwaku to help them locate a polling station register of the NPP,” she narrated.

The police spokesperson continued: “We have since combed the entire town of Onwe but the missing person is yet to be found.”

ASP Juliana told the paper that the suspects claimed during interrogations that they had no knowledge of the victim’s present location since they left him behind after Osei Kwaku had escorted them to Onwe, another community in the constituency, to retrieve a polling station register.

She indicated that the two suspects were arrested on suspicion of abducting the man, having allegedly besieged the registration centre and bundled him into a taxi cab.

Police at the divisional and regional levels are jointly investigating the case.

Meanwhile, some aggrieved youth activists of the NPP in the Constituency have charged the constituency executives and the Member of Parliament, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi to do everything to bring Osei Kwaku back.

“We know and we’re aware that the constituency executives are part and parcel of this whole incident,” Dominic Dankwa, spokesman for the aggrieved youth told the media.

He called on the police not to rest but treat the case as a crime and not an internal party matter.
