2 Taxi Drivers Jailed 60 Years For Rape, Robbery

Two taxi drivers who brutally raped and robbed a passenger have been jailed a total of 60 years by the Ofaakor Circuit Court in Kasoa, in the Central Region.

The convicts namely Samuel Adams, 20, from Pomadze near Winneba but lives in Kasoa and Patrick Afful, 18, from Agona robbed and took turns to rape a Nigerian lady whom they picked, at Kasoa Crispo City in the Awutu Senya East Municipality.

According to the police, the victim boarded a taxi cab registered GX  8171- 20 from Kasoa New Market Junction to Columba Road after closing from work on October 20.

The police said the driver and his colleague with intent to harm the lady, failed to stop at the victim’s destination, and closed the windows of the cab and sent her towards the Buduburam direction.

They then stopped at an isolated place at Crispo City, near Dr. Jesus Church, pulled pieces of iron rods and a knife and threatened to harm the lady if she did not surrender her phone and money.

Kasoa District Police Commander Chief Superintendent Timothy Dassah revealed that, the two hoodlums had striped the victim naked, pulled out a knife on her, robbed her, and each of them raped the victim till they got tired before abandoning her.

The next day, the victim on her way to work saw the taxi and alerted a nearby police checkpoint and the police went after the hoodlums.

The court, in sentencing them to 30-year jail terms, said the two are dangerous and must be kept away to ensure public safety.
