The suspects
Three people have been arrested by the police in connection with an attack on a mobile money merchant who was robbed of GH?1,700 at his home at Fumesua, near Ejisu in the Ashanti Region.
Charles Sarpong alias Gangster, 23; Sylvester Frimpong alias This Way, 23 and Richmond Abban, 25, were said to have broken into the room of the unnamed mobile money merchant on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at about 3:00 am whilst the victim was asleep.
They robbed the victim of a Samsung mobile phone and GH?1,700 cash being proceeds from the previous day’s sales, at knife point, ASP Juliana Obeng, Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, disclosed.
According to her, the threesome immediately bolted after the victim had surrendered to them the money and the phone.
The police officer narrated that the victim, in a report to the police, mentioned Charles Sarpong as one of his attackers.
The police subsequently proceeded to arrest Sarpong at a spot at Fumesua and an immediate search conducted on him revealed an amount of GH?470.
Whilst Sarpong was in police custody, ASP Juliana said the other two suspects – Sylvester Frimpong and Richmond Abban – paid him a visit and they were identified by the complainant as accomplices.
They were also arrested to assist the police in their investigations. An amount of GH?351 was found in possession of Frimpong as well as the victim’s mobile phone.
