Fred Oware (middle) addressing a gathering in the Volta Region
Former First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Fred Oware says the party is poised to make major inroads in the Volta region, the perceived world bank of its major political opponent, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to him, the NPP would significantly increase its votes and secure some parliamentary seats in the region.
Mr. Oware said this after embarking on a three-day working tour of the Volta region to access the NPP’s chances in the region and also ascertain some challenges the party’s regional and constituency executives were facing in the discharge of their duties and how they could be assisted.
“After a three-day tour of several parts of the Volta region, I am absolutely certain of NPP’s chances in the region this time. I met ordinary people on the street, chiefs and opinion leaders, corporate and religious leaders, and I think that the people of the region have now accepted the values and message of the flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and wish to see him as President to address our economic difficulties,” he said.
The open voluntarism of the majority of the youth and women to work for change in the various communities convinces me that people of the Volta Region are disappointed in the performance of President John Mahama and are yearning for an NPP government, led by Nana Akufo-Addo, according to Mr. Fred Oware,.
He expressed satisfaction with the performance of the party’s regional and constituency executives.
“Our regional and constituency executives down to the polling stations are all keeping their eyes on the ball. The party is stronger and more visible in the region and members feel more inclusive,” he said.
Endorsing Nana Akufo-Addo’s “One Factory, One District” policy, Mr. Oware said the Volta region has several business opportunities which, when well harnessed, will spur an economic revolution for all social classes in the region and the nation as a whole.
He said the policy, if implemented under the NPP, would go a long way to address the high rate of unemployment among the youth by creating more jobs to enhance the livelihood of the people.
Mr. Oware also took the time to visit some of the district offices of the Electoral Commission (EC) to observe the continuous registration exercise and assist in addressing some challenges prospective registrants were facing.
He used the opportunity to urge the citizens, especially the youth to take their civic duties seriously and take part in the electoral process, noting that the decision they make on 7 December would determine their lives forever.
Mr. Oware assured the party’s regional and constituency executives of further visits to the region, stating that he would engage the leadership of the party to affirm constituency-specific strategies to promote the party’s agenda.
“I am persuaded that we must achieve our target in the region to be able to win the general elections.
“We need to assure all the people of the region that their interests are our interests and the time is now to change the mandate,” he added.
