People who fail to participate in communal labour at Pomadze in the Central Region will give one bag of cement as penalty for the offence.
Gomoaba Nana Apata Kofi V, chief of Gomoa Pomadze and Guantoahene of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area, disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency at Pomadze after leading his people in a three-hour clean-up exercise as part of this month’s National Sanitation Day (NSD) activities.
Nana Apata Kofi said the bags of cement that would be collected from the defaulters would be used to support the implementation of development projects in the town.
Addressing participants to round off the exercise, the Guantoahene expressed the need for Ghanaians to cultivate the self-help spirit to enhance the development of their communities.
He said besides keeping the country clean all the time, regular cleaning-up exercises play an important role in bringing environments under proper and hygienic conditions for the maintenance of excellent health status.
The Guantoahene appealed to the various religious organisations and all organised groups in the country to devote part of their time to educate their followers on the NSD.
